Royal Carousel Friesians "The Edge of Magic" Jousting Clinic

"When one thinks of jousting, one has a tendency to only think of Heavy Armour and people falling off their horses.  However, Patrick showed us the "lighter" side of the sport which is highly enjoyable for both horse & rider"
David MacMillan, Gold Medal Champion Dressage Equestrian

"The level of enthusiasm & support I saw for light armour jousting and the medieval games gives me confidence that we are on the right path to elevate the sport to where it needs be...in the public eye"
Dame Elizabeth, KEJA Light & Heavy Armour Jouster

"This clinic has changed my life, and I did not see that coming!  My initial thoughts on jousting were that it was brutal, but I was relieved to discover quite the opposite.  This is about precision, and the technical riding that is necessary to compete.  And, it is something different for the horses.  My new goal is to become a light armour jouster...for real!"
Stacey Hornsby, Dressage & Vaulting Equestrian

The Edge of Magic Clinic in West Jorden, Utah was the creation of Annette Coester (Royal Carousel Friesians).  Annette is the owner of the Approved breeding Stallion Feike 395 Sport that was imported from the Netherlands.  Feike 395 has been accepted by the KFPS (Freisian Paarden Stanbock of the Netherlands).  Annette also owns an approved FPZV Stallion named Sam. Her third Stallion named Gallahan shown in the photo to the right with David MacMillan is learning to joust and game.

"As most of our group here in Utah are dressage riders, this was the bipolar extreme opposite of normal, but most definitely, everyone of us wants to take this to the next level.  My goal is to have weekly practice sessions and have Patrick return in September for another Clinic"

Annette Coester, Producer of "Believe in Magic" riding her FPZV Approved Friesian Stallion Sam.  Annette met Patrick at the 2006 3rd Annual IFSHA Grand Nationals.  Annette is now promoting the sport of jousting by hosting clinics for Knights Edge Jousting Academy and becoming a lady knight just for fun.

Karen Israelsen signed up for The Edge of Magic Clinic with no previous jousting experience, but was amazed to participate in the training that was created centuries ago to prepare a warrior and mount for war.  Karen owns 4 Andalusian horses that have the natural aptitude for this type of event.

"Wonderful! Best horse clinic I have ever attended.  Patrick was positive that my Andalusian Mare could participate and enjoy it.  Patrick spent time riding Venteesa and preparing her for Karen to take the reigns.  I thought, no way because she is rather high strung.  She loved it!  She has found her calling.  You have to find a horses' nitch and we found what she loves.  Thank you so much Patrick!"
Karen Israelsen, Dressage and Polo Equestrian

"I've been trying to bring back an awareness to this sport and was honored to be able to work with magnificent horses.  Even though these skills are no longer used in the battlefield, the horses had a great time and were challenged with new physical skills.  It is such a thrill to see the horse and rider getting that compeitive edge together with collection and balance"

Patrick Lambke, Knights Edge Jousting Academy

"It was an amazing thing to do! I never thought I would have tried jousting.  I did something that I never thought I could do...turn and burn with the trust that Patrick's horse Cyrus would do his job and Patrick would not hit me too hard with the lance.  I felt totally safe even though at first I was intimidated.  I will be joining in on the practices at Annette's."
 Heidi Benson, Hunter/Jumper Equestrian

Linda Fullmer and her absolutely gorgeous Clydesdale, "Jumping Jack Flash" shown above is an upper level dressage & driving horse that has just turned warhorse.

"I loved dressing up in the medieval costumes and Elsueno tack.  My favourite event was the light armour jousting and then the spear throw"
Linda Fullmer, Dressage Equestrian

The Edge of Magic Clinic was so successful because of the riding skills of the participants.  ALL obtained their level four jousting.  What made this horse clinic different?  The group dressed up their horses with Medieval Tack provided by Lisa Oberman (Elsueno Espanol) and themselves in costumes provided by Annette Coester.  The costuming added such a special touch to the clinic and made it seem much less "work".  We loved this clinic and will highly recommend this, new to us, sport of jousting!

Thank you to participants, ground crew, photographers, and the producer for making this magic!  See you in September!

KEJA "knights" a student transforming Liz into "Damn Elizabeth"

The path to knighthood is one of stamina, courage, determination and guts.  Elizabeth won the hearts of the spectators as she entered the list at Sherwood Forest Faire to joust the members of the oldest Heavy Armour Toupes in North America.

Patrick Lambke and K.E.J.A. (Knights Edge Jousting Academy) students were invited to join the Riders of the Golden Age Heavy Armour Jousting Troupe at the Sherwood Forest Faire in McDade, Texas.  Below, the pictures capture Elizabeth's first experience being unhorsed.  This was also her first time jousting with her instructor, friend and mentor.

After, Elizabeth is awarded with a knighting ceremony to raise her from student to Dame Elizabeth achieving what few women have.  Congratulations Liz.
